Accessible MIami

Designed for everyone, meaning great ideas are never held back. Accessible Miami, your new favorite task tracker!

Persona

Alexis Garcia is an 18‑year‑old first‑year student at Miami University from New York, and the first in her family to attend college. She has mild dyslexia and ADHD, which make dense text and multitasking challenging, especially in a new environment. Alexis relies heavily on her smartphone for organization and navigation as she adjusts to campus life. Her goals center on building confidence, staying organized, and connecting socially while managing academic demands. She needs tools that simplify campus navigation, reduce cognitive overload, and support accessibility through voice commands, text‑to‑speech, and customizable visual settings. These features help her overcome pain points like information overload, disorientation, and isolation, empowering her to focus on learning and personal growth.

User Research

For this project, I conducted a series of short surveys to understand how users engage with accessibility features and which tools they find most valuable in everyday app use. The survey responses helped reveal patterns in feature familiarity, perceived usefulness, and specific accessibility needs such as captions, enlarged text, and text‑to‑speech. Even with a small sample size, the data provided clear direction for prioritizing inclusive design choices and ensuring the website supports a wide range of users, regardless of whether they rely on accessibility tools daily.

Key Insights from Survey Data

The survey results revealed that accessibility features are not only widely appreciated but also actively improve usability for a broad range of users. Even participants who don’t rely on accessibility tools daily still recognized the value of features like captions, enlarged text, and text‑to‑speech in making digital experiences easier and more intuitive. These findings reinforced the importance of designing with inclusivity in mind from the start, ensuring the website supports diverse needs and enhances clarity, comfort, and the overall user experience for everyone.
